Lessons I Have Learned from Pottery

Had I never ventured into the potter's world, there are many treasures I never would have discovered, life lessons made plain to me through my experiences at the wheel, extruder, and slab roller.  When trying to make this pot or that, it becomes obvious that clay does have a mind of its own, much like me.  Likewise, a gentle, persuasive touch can tease out the very best it has to offer and yield amazing results, very similar to the tender but firm hand with which my heavenly Father guides me.  Any amazing results are credited to Him and not to my own effort.

So, with joy, I share with you some of my most meaningful insights. lessons learned from pot and studio.

A thing (or person) doesn't have to be perfect to be loved.

A thing (or person) doesn't have to be perfect to be useful.

There are many ways to make something beautiful.

What is ugly to one person is beautiful to another.

You may have a talent waiting to be discovered though you never dared to dream of it.

Just as the potter is the only one who can say when his pot is done, so God is the judge of His creation.

He is the potter, I am the clay!

If I remain soft and tender in His hands, His job is a lot easier and so is mine.

If I become hard, He will have to break me in order to do any further molding or changing in me.

Staying in the center of God's will is hard but it's the only way to get the job done.

Trimming the excess off may be painful but it's worth it.

To be really useful, you have to go through the fire.  It gets rid of the non-essentials, leaving what is really important, and you come forth changed, strong and beautiful.

God is ever faithful!
